Selfish Crocodiles

This half term Year 2 have been reading ‘The Selfish Crocodile’ by Faustin Charles. On Friday the children made their own fantastic lifelike crocodiles using play dough.

Green Fingers!

On the last day of half term Topaz planted their pinto beans in soil. Most of the beans had sprouted beautifully, with green embryos and a healthy root system as you can see in the photos below.

The challenge over the half term break for the children is to keep their plants alive and report on their progress, let’s see who can grow the healthiest plant of all!

Natural Art

Last week in Art we explored how nature can be a source of materials for art. After exploring the fields just outside Zircon classroom, we managed to come up with amazing pieces of artwork using collage of leaves, flowers and other natural materials on paper!

Well done everyone!

Our 5 Senses

In English Topaz have been using our five senses to inspire our writing. Following on from last week’s Art lesson we have been planning a descriptive piece of writing based around nature and what we can see, smell, touch, hear and taste.

On Monday we spent some time sitting on the playing field and writing about what we could see, for example, the vivid blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds.

What inspiration have you taken from nature?

Inspired by nature

On Friday Year 2 decided to take inspiration from nature to create collages using natural material that we found on the school field. Topaz and Amber class ventured out onto the field to pick flowers, leaves and sticks with which to create our collages.
