Fire Fire!

On Wednesday Topaz class visited the Fire Fire! exhibition at the Museum of London. The children were able to see artefacts recovered from the Great Fire of London in 1666 and explore how the fire spread from a small bakery in Pudding Lane to destroy much of the heart of old London. Topaz enjoyed dressing up as 17th century folk and trying to rebuild London with wider streets and a better quality of housing for its people. They listened to, and were able to read extracts of diaries from people who lived through the fire including Samuel Pepys and John Evelyn in order to get a real sense of what the local population had to endure over those 4 terrible days .

Illustrations of Flora

Yesterday, Year 2 were drawing sketches of different flowers and plants. They showed lots of different techniques and focuses very hard to do the best drawings possible. Between them, the classes drew an entire garden!

These are Amber Class’s pictures. See if you can spot yours!

As you can see there is a lot of variety, but what features do all of these plants have in common?

Mr Smith

Fire Fire!

Zircon class had a fantastic day learning even more about the Great Fire of London. We saw how the fire started, some real life artifacts from the 17th century, including pages from Samuel Pepys’ diary and the children got to re-enact what the people had to do to put out the fire without modern day fire engines and equipment! We also got to see a 17th century jail cell and learnt a bit about how the plague spread through London around the same time. On top of this, the children were praised for being one of the most polite schools to have visited, well done Zircon!

Art Club

A group of children in year 1 and year 2 have been working very hard this term to create some fantastic art in art club. Here are some pictures showing their exploration of different materials and subject matter. Next half term, we’ll be trying to use our feelings and imagination to make some more artwork.
